Why everyone keeps coming back.

Nestled in the heart of Monticello, Indiana, Anglers Restaurant & Proper Pour is a culinary gem that seamlessly blends the charm of a laid-back bar with the sophistication of a seafood-centric restaurant. From the moment you step inside this inviting spot on N Francis Street, you're greeted by a warm, comfortable atmosphere that feels like a perfect retreat after a day of fishing or exploring the local area.

Anglers specializes in fresh, expertly prepared seafood, complemented by an impressive selection of sharable appetizers and a carefully curated beverage menu. Among the standout dishes is their Large Fried Shrimp, served with a zesty cocktail sauce that beautifully balances the golden, crispy exterior and tender, juicy shrimp within. For those seeking a more refined option, the Rainbow Trout is a picturesque dish—lightly seasoned, butterflied, and grilled to perfection, then elegantly basted in lemon butter sauce and paired with your choice of two dinner sides. The Anglers Alaskan Cod, featuring crispy battered fillets alongside golden fries and creamy cole slaw, is another favorite that has won over locals and visitors alike.

Before diving into the main courses, many patrons enjoy the irresistible sharables like the Loaded Steak Fries, topped with bacon, molten nacho cheese, Monterey Jack, sour cream, and fresh chives, or the Pickle Chips—thinly sliced, breaded, and fried to crisp perfection, served with a "Dam Good" dipping sauce that's become a signature indulgence. These starters set the tone for a meal rooted in comfort and bold flavors.

The beverage offerings here deserve a mention as well. Whether you prefer a chilled Coke product, a soothing cup of hot coffee or tea, or a refreshing glass of iced tea or lemonade, their drinks menu complements the savory fare beautifully, ensuring every sip refreshes and satisfies.

What truly elevates Anglers Restaurant & Proper Pour is not only the quality of the food but the attentive and friendly service. Reviewers consistently highlight the staff's warmth and attentiveness, making each visit feel personalized and welcoming. The ambiance is noted for its clean, light, and inviting setting—perfect for casual dinners, Sunday brunches, or a relaxed evening out with friends.

Visitors like Christopher Sommers and A Tabor praise the value of their meals and the consistently delicious dishes, emphasizing how the Surf & Turf and chop steak with grilled mushrooms stand out as crowd-pleasers. Meanwhile, James Boyer’s glowing remarks on their pizza showcase the versatility and quality that keep guests coming back time and time again.

For anyone in Monticello craving a memorable dining experience that captures the essence of fresh seafood with a side of genuine Midwestern hospitality, Anglers Restaurant & Proper Pour is an exceptional choice. We visited Anglers a few times in the last couple of years. They have a wonderful menu, a large selection of cold drinks, attentive staff, and probably one of the cleanest restaurants we have been to. Tonight was Surf & Turf for $28.00. It was beyond worth the money in today's inflated market, let me tell you. Delicious tender steak, prepared as requested. The only reason for not five stars on food was that the snow crab legs were overcooked. Not to the point they were bad, the overcooking makes them hard to shell out, and shrinks the meat. Overall, it was a fantastic meal and evening!

We had a good experience at Angler’s Proper Pour. The place has a comfortable, welcoming feel to it, and the service was friendly and attentive throughout our visit. We started with the sliced pickled chips and homemade dipping sauce, which were really tasty—crispy, flavorful, and a great way to start the meal. My wife had the chop steak with grilled mushrooms and onions, along with mashed potatoes, gravy and a side salad. She enjoyed it and said everything was cooked well and had good flavor. I ordered the fish and chips. The fish was cooked nicely and had a good texture. The fries were hot and fresh, but could’ve used a little seasoning or something extra to make them stand out more. Overall, it was a nice dinner. Good food, great service, and a pleasant atmosphere. We’d definitely go back and try more off the menu.

Food was hot fresh and had a nice distinctive flavor. We ate right at 4pm and were the only people there. We got fish, shrimp, buffalo wings, fries, slaw, rice, and hush puppies. Loved the hush puppies, and fish had a really good seasoning in the breading. It was a tad overcooked but tasted good. Price was a little more than what Google said to expect, and portions were average. It was just three of us. Staff were really nice and the waitress was fun and personal.

Food and service was great. Our server Mindy was super nice, very accommodating. Brought us a few beers to try before deciding on a large glass. Very friendly and checked on us often. Cobb salad was delicious. Chicken was nice and juicy and lettuce was fresh and crisp. Family had shrimp tacos, fettuccine, and orange chicken. All was good. Would definitely recommend Anglers.
